Texas sales tax holiday

Texas sales tax holiday

The Texas legislature moved its annual Sales Tax Holiday to Aug. 9 – 11,2013. The Texas sales tax holiday was previously scheduled to be a week later in the month. During this weekend, shoppers in Texas will be exempt from sales and use taxes on most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpack purchases provided each individual purchase is less than $100. This will add up to about $8 in savings for every $100 spent on these items.

There are a few exceptions and rules for these tax exemptions. For more information, The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has outlined the specific details for the holiday on its web site.
