New York sales tax extensions

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo approved of 24 county sales tax extensions.

Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, just signed a bill to extend the sales tax rates for 24 counties across the state. By law, if a county in New York wants to charge a sales tax rate above 3 percent, it needs to get permission from the state government. All but three of New York’s 62 counties charge more than the 3 percent rate so they constantly need to renew their tax rates.

Erie, Allegany and Genesee were a few of the counties that had their sales tax rates approved for the future. Cuomo also gave a sales tax extension for several other counties earlier this summer. Now that this bill has been signed, these 24 counties will keep their higher sales tax rates until at least November 2015.
